Mountain Harbor Inn Vacation

*I have finally finished this blog.  Since we are taking Eric roller skating for the first time tonight, which will most certainly warrant a blog, I had to get this one up quickly.  Well...quickly in my mind*

Thanks to my WONDERFUL parents (and Amber and Chris and Katrina and everyone else at church that helped out), John and I were able to have some time away from the boys for the first time in about 2 years.  We had decided to celebrate our birthdays together and take a mini-vacation in the Smokies.  Having a chance to drop the boys off for a few days was a dream come true, but the saying is true "Be careful what you wish for - you just might get it".  I bawled on my way home back to meet John for our vacation.  My excitement was overridden by "guilt" for "abandoning" my baby Matthew.  But he was in the best hands possible, so I did my best to suck it up and look forward to my alone time with John.

I had booked us a suite at the Mountain Harbor Inn, a bed and breakfast in Dandridge, TN.  I had never been to a B&B before, but this one sat on a lake and had a diamond rating, AND was 50% off!  It sounded cozy and romantic.  We were a bit surprised to pull up to a weathered building that resembled a motel.  We checked in and were shown around the dining room, where we were told they served an "AWESOME breakfast".  I should surely hope so, since this IS a B&B.  We were told about a romantic sunset cruise at 5:30pm and candlelight dessert at 6:30pm.  We reserved a spot for a romantic sunset cruise and were then shown to our room - the Rose Suite!

The inside of the room was nice, though smaller than John expected.

There were nice touches:

And not so nice touches:

Yes..that's a dead bug.  No matter...it may have crawled out and died after housekeeping had come.  We checked in about 3pm and decided to go ahead and go to dinner so we could make the romantic cruise at 5:30pm.  We knew we wanted to go out after the cruise, so we decided to have our romantic dessert delivered to the room while we were out.  I got ready for dinner while John checked out the amenities.

Yes.  This is my husband watching the Eagles game.  I didn't think we'd ever get out for dinner!  But I wrangled him away from the television and we walked out the door to the best view ever!  We saw it when we were taken to our room, but it always made me smile to walk out to this:

We chose to eat at Angelo's, a restaurant on the Lake.  It was a very classy place with indoor and outdoor seating and live music.  We chose to eat outside and enjoyed a fabulous dinner!!!  It was then and there I decided I wanted to live on a lake - THIS lake for the rest of my life.  Surrounded by laid-back, casually dressed lake-dwellers and eating a dinner while enjoying a fabulous view was my cup of tea.  I'm ready for retirement now!

We headed back to get ready to head out for our cruise.  On the drive back, I felt John swerve, a crunch, and then heard him exclaim, "YES!"  I looked up to ask what had happened.  He proudly exclaimed that he had hit a squirrel.  When I showed a great deal of dismay and exclaimed, "You SWERVED to HIT it?!?"  he insisted that he swerved to miss it, but the squirrel just got in the way.  I told him our weekend was doomed since he was swerving to hit squirrels.  He laughed and stood by his statement that he swerved to miss it.  R.I.P little fellow.

We joined the other couples waiting for the cruise and were led down to the lake where the captain was waiting for us.  We boarded a pontoon boat, of which was capable of holding 6 couples and the captain.  There were only 5 couples, so John and I got an entire bench seating to ourselves.  We sat towards the bow of the boat (mostly because we thought someone else would come and sit with us and I wanted a front view)  The captain pulled the boat off of dock and we started to take off.  Sorta.  John and I were asked to move because "our weight was affecting the motor" and he couldn't get the boat to go.  So we slinked back away from the bow of the boat.  Say what?!  What would he have done if there had been one more couple?  Our combined weight was equal or less than every couple on that boat!  What a great way for a couple of fatties to start their romantic cruise!  It was fairly apparent from the beginning that this would not be romantic.  With bench seating facing each other, we spent the majority of the ride looking at 2 other couples, or rather trying NOT to look at the other two couples.  The ride ended up being rather long and....boring.  Even for me.  And I could be on a boat all day.  If I don't get to live on that lake, I'm totally buying a houseboat up in Oregon.  Our "romantic cruise" included a tour of the "star's homes"!  Nothing says lovin' like a tour of the lifestyles of the rich and famous!  The house of an Indian heart surgeon was pointed out.  He built his house to look like a clinic so it was interesting, in an eccentric kind of way/  And then we were shown where Dolly Parton's MANAGER'S house was.  Really?   And lastly we got to see one of Kenny Chesney's homes.  And then we headed back to the dock.  It was an interesting tour, but not what we had in mind when we signed up for this boating adventure.  We - and by we, I mean  I - decided to document the cruise with a couple picture, but I'm terrible at holding the camera out and taking pictures and John wasn't cooperating, but I like the picture anyway.  Note the other couples in the reflection of John's glasses!

This is the back of the Bed and Breakfast as seen from the boat:

Take special note of the floating chapel.  They were very proud of that.  Supposedly, it's the only one in the world.

Grateful to be back on land, we headed to the car to head into Pigeon Forge.  After driving the main strip, we settled on playing putt-putt.  I don't know how we managed it, but we picked the worst place EVER.  $20 down the drain.  Though I was tempted to stop the game and go ask for our money back.  We begrudgingly finished the game and then took off to find something else to do.  We had originally looked into going to MAGIQUEST, but John feared it was a place meant for children and that he would feel out of place without our own children there.  Nevermind that he totally ignored me reading off the attractions there.  I convinced him to stop by so we could at least check it out.  We were met at the door and given a full explanation of the game and other attractions in the building, which included blacklight putt-putt, mirror maze, and a laser room.  We found out that for $30 a piece, we got 90 minutes of game play time, a free wand (a $14.99 value) and access to the other 3 attractions.  An AMAZING deal after the money we just wasted.  We decided not to play that night as they were getting ready to close down (thought the would have let us in).  We decided to come back the next day.  Even though it was only 9pm, we headed back to our room since neither of us had gotten much sleep.

I was excited to get back to the triple chocolate chunk cake awaiting me in the room!  Although we weren't able to attend the romantic, candlelit dessert, I looked forward to the set-up they would have for us in the room.  John found our "romantic" dessert in the refrigerator.

We really couldn't do anything but laugh.  they are 0-2 at this point in the romance department.  On the plus side, it was VERY good and we enjoyed dessert very much.

John who hadn't gotten much sleep on account of work, dropped out like a rock.  I was very tired too but I didn't sleep well.  In our welcome book, I had read a line that offered headphones with nature sounds for light sleepers.  That line seriously needed to be changed to "We have free headphones at the front desk for those who don't want to hear the couple next door to you".  So... the couple in the suite that I had tried to book  (the suite with the jacuzzi tub) enjoyed the tub very much.  At  1am.  Until 2am.  Ugh.  When I would fall to sleep, I would be awoken by something in my face.

The comforter was on backwards.  How hard is it to put a comforter on correctly?  Of course, I was too exhausted to get up and turn it around myself and no matter how hard I tried to pull the comforter so I wouldn't have a tag in my face, it always found its way back.

The next morning, I still woke up before John.  He had slept well which was good.  We took our time getting ready and headed up to breakfast.  I think we had fairly high expectations of breakfast since it WAS a bed and breakfast, but we went in to find less selection than you get at a Comfort Suites.  Cold eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and biscuits and gravy.  White bread for toast.  Apples and bananas.  Milk and OJ.  Coffee and tea.  Several small boxes of cereal to choose from.  ......  Like I said, maybe our expectations were too high.  I personally was hoping for bagels, french  toast, muffins, fruit salad with berries, croissants  AS WELL as everything that was provided (except hot)!  We choked down breakfast and hurried to go reserve a couple of jet-skiis and a pontoon boat to go out on the lake for the morning.  The pontoon boat ended up being more than we expected, so we only reserved the jet-skiis.   Our bellies were turning from breakfast, so we went back to "recover" for an hour before hitting the lake.

Jet-skiing was definitely the highlight of the weekend.  I had only been once before..and not for long so it took me a little while to get warmed up.  John announced that I was "boring" to jet-ski with since I only drove in a straight line.  I just wanted to explore the lake!  The last 15 minutes of the hour we reserved though, I spent doing mad circles to make waves for John to jump.  He "caught air" so he was very happy.  I wish that we could have spent several hours out there, but we certainly had a lot of fun for that one hour!

When we got back to the room, it had still not been cleaned.  I assumed housekeeping would not be coming that day.  Oh well.  We changed clothes yet again to head into Pigeon Forge for the day.  We stopped by the lake to take a few pictures first.

On our way into town we passed by this store on Dam road.  John got a real big kick out of it, so we  took a picture:

We took our time going into town.  We stopped at an As Seen On TV store and laughed at all the merchandise and finished our Christmas shopping for all of you!  Just kidding....  :)  Then we headed over to a doughnut shop where he grabbed a coffee and I got my croissant!

We went back to MagiQuest to play for the afternoon.  It took me a while to understand the game and get what exactly it was I was supposed to be doing with my wand, but once John found me wandering aimlessly around and showed me what to do, it became fun!  Fortunately we had 90 minutes of play time, so I still had plenty of time to play.  I thought the whole set-up was just brilliant.  You really get your exercise running back and forth between the different environments.  It also works as great brain exercise, as you have to remember where you last saw the item you are needing to finish each quest.  The pre-teen boys that were playing were just too cute.  On 2 separate occasions with 2 different boys, I was asked if I was looking for anything in particular, and then they quickly took me to the item.  I highly recommend this place to anyone that has one nearby.

After our 90 minute game play was up, we headed downstairs to play at the other attractions.  John beat me pretty badly at putt-putt, but we enjoyed the game much more than we had at the other place.  Then we headed over to the Vector, where you try to work  your way from one end of the room to the other by avoiding the laser beams.  I really did give it an honest effort at first, but then gave up and ran through the room to the stop button.  My time was terrible.  John did fairly well though!

Then we did the mirror maze.  I've never done one before.  It was a lot of fun.  I'm sure it would have taken me a lot longer to get through it without John there.  He moved through pretty quickly with his hands out in front of him.  It was much easier following him and letting him run into mirrors!  He  tried to lose me at one point though and laughed as I ran into the mirrors!  I would love to take Eric through it.  We had been told that once we got to the end, we could turn around and try to make our way back through if we wanted, though it was much harder.  We made it through the maze in fairly good time, so we decided to turn around and try again.  It WAS much harder.  And John DID manage to lose me.  I wanted to make it back to the beginning on my own anyway.  Didn't take me long to realize I was going in circles though, so I just decided to go out through the exit and wait to see how long it would take John to come out.  It took a little while for him to come out, but he also could not find his way back through and gave up and came out through the exit.

It was about 4pm and we were ready for dinner, so we drove around looking for somewhere to eat.  I really wanted to go to the Murder Mystery Dinner theater.  I knew  the food probably wouldn't be all that great, but it would give us a night time activity and I've always wanted to go to one.  After finding out the price, we decided to pass and headed over to Tony Roma's.  Neither of us had eaten there but we were interested in trying it.  I LOVED the decor and decided that when we buy a house, I will style my dining room after Tony Roma's.  It was all I could do to keep from asking what color paint was on the walls.  Our food arrived quickly and to our surprise, we found ourselves not nearly as hungry as expected.  I ordered a salad and potato soup which was totally yummy and filling.  He ordered a burger.  I am not a fan of hamburgers, but he offered me a bite which I accepted.  BEST burger I've ever tasted.  With our 10% coupon, we ate for less then $20.  It was great!

It had been a long day so we headed back to the bed and breakfast.  Our room HAD been cleaned!  Yay!  Almost...

And the comforter was still on backwards.  *sigh* Last night there anyways.  We decided that we would attend the candlelit dessert tonight instead of having it delivered in styrofoam.  We were still a bit early and full from dinner so we sat out on the "back porch"

This doesn't scream "romantic" in my OCD/clutter-phobia ears, but we enjoyed sitting on the swing and looking out over the lake, once again reinforcing my belief that I should own a lake home.

We went on up for dessert.  John stuck with his cheesecake choice.  Smart man.  I chose a different type cake and was not as happy with the new choice.  Aside from the raspberry sauce heart on my plate (and I forgot to bring my camera with me), we didn't find it much more romantic than the styrofoam.  We went back to the room and changed to get in the hot tub (again..I failed to get a picture of their idea of a romantic hot tub getaway) We stayed until we were toasty and then went back to the room for the night.  Fortunately, I got quite a bit of sleep since I was exhausted from the night before.  John, who was well-rested, did NOT sleep and got to hear the same things I did the night before!  :)  We slept in, skipped breakfast and got back on the road.

Despite all the mishaps, we left with some  great memories, good stories, and the desire to drag other couples back this place with us.  :)

There!!!!  It's written!! Ii hope it was worth the wait!

New Page

Everyone always says you should record the cute little things your children say so you can remember them, which is a great idea except for the fact that there is never a good place to record or keep such cute little sayings.  So I decided to create the "Eric-isms" page.  If you can think of your favorite "Eric-isms" let me know so I can add them, because I've already forgotten them!  When Matthew starts talking, I'll create him a page too and hopefully stay on top of it a bit better.  Thanks!

First Steps

Here is Matthew learning to walk.  I still haven't recorded him since he's gotten a bit better control, but I know some of you are anxious to see him walk!

Special

John and Eric have little word games that they like to play with each other.  One of the games was for John to ask Eric if he was cute or the question "Who's the cutest boy in the whole world?"  Eric liked this game and enjoyed hearing how cute he was.  After spending the weekend with Nana and Papa, Eric suddenly had a different answer to the question "Are you cute?"  He responded with "No.  I'm special."  This amused us greatly though to this day we have no idea where he got that from.  It amused JOHN enough to start a new word game.  Every time Eric would say, "I'm special."  John would say "Yes you are.  You are window-licking special."  I, like a good mother, fussed at John, insisting that Eric would start to pick that up.

Mom was right.

But it didn't matter to John, because he found it hilarious to hear Eric say he was window-licking special.  I tried to fight back by telling Eric he was special because God made him and hoping it would take root.

So this game was going on this morning.  Yay.  Here was the conversation out the door on the way to church:

J:  Are you cute?
E:  No.  I'm window-licking special!
C:  Baby, you're NOT window-licking special.  You are special because God made you special.
E:  Yes!  God made me window-licking special!
C:  JOOOOOOOOOOHHNNNNNNN!

I have to admit that it's funny.  But  poor little Eric just doesn't know what he's talking about and my biggest fear was that he would pop out with that in Bible class if the word "special" was said.  Like a nightmarish version of Pee-Wee Herman's "Word Of The Day".  I picked him up from Bible class and asked the teacher if he has said anything "crazy".  She smiled and said no, though she had a look that seemed to add "not TODAY".  Relief.  We made it through with no problems.  Or so I thought.

Waiting for Children's church to begin, Eric found himself in a conversation with an older girl.  And we listened as Eric defended himself against her verbal attacks.

Girl:  You're weird!
Eric:  (spoken in the proudest voice he could muster)  No!  I NOT weird!  I'm window-licking special!  You're weird!  I'm licking-special!
Girl:  .....

Because really...what are you gonna say to that?  I guess he won that one.  John and I were laughing so hard we cried.

So I give up.  Somebody else's turn to fuss at John.  All I know is Eric comes by his window-licking specialness honestly!

More Recipes (of the unhealthy variety)

I don't know what it is, but I am STARVING this week.  I ran across this website called BAKERELLA and I think I'm in love.  Jillian would not approve.  But Jillian's not here, now is she??  *evil grin* Ok.  All things within moderation.  I'll even provide you with Jillian's brownie recipe, courtesy of Julie.  But FIRST, the sinful recipes!

S'MORE BROWNIES   I tried really hard to rationalize how these could be relatively healthy for you, but I can't just out and out lie like that.  I do intend on making these one day though!

PILLOW COOKIES  If you thought the above was bad, don't look at these at all.

MINI MAPLE PANCAKE MUFFINS  Ok.  These aren't terrible for you.  All natural ingredients, so I can't find fault.  I would suggest replacing the flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.  This is SO going to be breakfast this week.  I can't wait to make them.

*All credit for above photos and recipes goes to Bakerella.com.*

Okay.  Here are Jillian's HEALTHY brownies.  This is a recipe I have actually made.  IF you are craving a thick, chocolaty, dense, cake-like brownie, you will be disappointed.  But, if you are willing to be open minded to "healthy desserts" you'll fall in love with this.  A light and airy chocolaty treat.  It took me a brownie or two or three ( I had to keep eating them just to make sure I had a good grip on how I felt about them!) to adjust to the difference but they are very addictive - and yummy!  Sorry - no picture!

olive oil spray for the pan
2/3 c mild honey (clover or orange blossom)
1/3 c natural unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 c white whole-wheat flour
1/4 tsp. aluminum-free baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c unsweetened applesauce
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 large egg, room temperature
3/4 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 and spray 8" sq. pan with olive oil, and set aside.
Place the honey in a large glass measuring cup and microwave on high until it is runny and almost bubbling (45-60 seconds).  Add the cocoa, stir, and let cool to room temperature.
In another bowl, place the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together and combine.
In another bowl, combine the applesauce, oil, egg, and vanilla and blend.  Add the honey/cocoa mix and whisk until smooth.  Add the flour mixture and stir thoroughly.
Place batter into prepared pan and bake for 25 minutes (until toothpick inserted into middle comes out clean or with crumbs attached, not gooey).

Recipes

I know moms are always looking for new recipes to try out at home.  Here are a few that I have found that can be cooked with all natural/organic foods and are super tasty.  Time to bust the myth that if it tastes good, it must be bad for you!

Dinner!!

So..I haven't kept up with providing you with all the details of the switch to all natural foods.  *bad Charity*  So I've got something special for you tonight!  Dinner by picture!

I discovered something absolutely fantastic.  Butternut squash!

Actually, my sister in law Wendy introduced me to butternut squash at Thanksgiving with this incredible POTATO-BUTTERNUT SQUASH AND GRUYERE GRATIN.  I've been wanting to make it ever since, but Gruyere is rather pricey!  I decided I wanted to introduce butternut squash into our diet somehow, so when we went to the Farmer's Market on Saturday, I picked a couple up.

I found a recipe for Butternut Squash Fries.  I figured if it looked like a fry, maybe my family would eat it.  So I started hacking away.  I learned I am inept at cutting squash.

I decided to just do one of the two squash(es?) after struggling with the one for so long.  Not pretty.  I'm not getting any awards for presentation, but we have fries!

Sorta.  Ok.  Into the oven we go.  We may have justed wasted a dollar.  In the meantime, I worked on cooking up the porkchops.  Once those were going, I prepared fresh green beans, one of our new recent favorites.  I've been meaning to advertise these Ziplock steam bags.  They make steaming veggies so quick and easy and they taste delicious!!

They even come with complete instructions on the bag!

By this time, the fries were done:

They don't look very good (again, no points for presentation!) but they were delicious!  Sweet and salty.  Don't believe me?  Check out the faces of these two picky eaters!

Final Product:

YUM-O!!

Lead Me

For those of you who haven't heard this song yet, I highly recommend taking a few minutes to listen to it. I can't tell you how many times I have listened to it, but I still cry everytime.

Uh-huh

Taking a Poll

My husband is aboard the "Wrong Train" this week (blog to come) and since I have already proven him wrong in one area, I would like to do that once again by posting a poll for your opinions!

I have been searching for a quilt/comforter/ blanket for Eric's bed that could grow with him.  I'm very anti-character sheets and blankets, though if either boy expressed a sincere interest in some, I would cave.  I was wanting something with blues and browns in it, possibly greens.  Stripes was a huge plus.

This would have been ideal:

However...we don't have hundreds of dollars to spend.  So I kept my eye out.  I finally found a reasonably priced quilt at Target that I thought would work perfectly but it was still more than I was willing to pay.  So I waited.  When it went on clearance and I got $10 off, I snagged it up.  I think it's just perfect!

John says it's a GIRL blanket.  So now I'm posting it here.  How girly does this blanket look to you?  I, personally, would not use it in a girl's room.  I think the colors and the stripes are perfect for a little boy and I think it will be great inspiration for the rest of his room when we eventually get a house.  So now you must vote.  Who is right?

Finally!!

I had a message on my blog telling me that I would be losing my background, so I was forced to come up with a new one, hence all the changes.  I've been thouroughly distraught about the look of the page.  It just didn't reflect me and I didn't like that.  But now I've got the final product up and I like it better than what I had originally!  It makes me smile inside to look at it and will hopefully inspire some more blogs.

Why I Love Having Kids and Why You Should Have Some Too

I don't know about the rest of you, but Sundays seem extra long and busy around our household.  We try hard to prepare for everything on Saturday night to make Sunday easier.  I was excited about teaching Children's Church today, as I had an awesome lesson planned on faith.  I was reminded, once again, of why I am thankful I don't have girls - but that is another blog.  All of the children were exceptionally well behaved and this Sunday seemed to be going by smoothly.

I have been on a cooking strike for the past few days, so we decided to go to Applebee's for lunch.  This was going to be our last time going out, because we are craving the healthy lifestyle we recently abandoned (out of laziness).  The boys were wound up and Matthew enjoyed letting the whole restaurant know he was there.  Eric did fairly well, though, so our attention was focused on keeping Matthew as best we could.  We ate quickly to get the boys out of there as quickly as possible.  It was nap time!!  John began to get stressed with Matthew's activity and asked me to take the boys out of the restaurant while he boxed up our meals and paid.

I took them out and then remembered I had left my keys on the table.  I figured John would bring them out so I waited.  He came out and saw us standing there.  I asked him if he had the keys.  He said no and I told him I had left them on the table.  He seemed to take an unusually long time and I began to wonder if they had fallen off the table.  He came back out to inform me that there were no keys on the table and he sent me in to look for them. Slightly furstrated at my husband's inability to see things that are in plain view, I left the kids with him to go retrieve the keys.  No keys.  I checked the seats.  No keys.  I checked the floor.  No keys.  The waitress came over and asked if I had lost something.  I told her I was looking for our keys.  We pulled the table out.  We pulled the benches out.  No keys.  My worst fear - they had been thrown away.

Things had started to pick up at Applebee's with the Sunday crowd, so she told me she would look through the trash, though she had not seen them and swore she had not picked them up.  Impossible.  They were RIGHT there on the table.  Now, it was my fault, because I had laid the keys close to the pile of trash and dishes and I felt badly about that, but she should have seen the keys before throwing them out!  So I waited, wondering what kind of nasty food would be embedded in my keys.  She came back with a concerned look on her face.  She didn't find any keys.  Now I started to get frustrated.  We searched the booth again.  A customer was asked to stand so her booth could be moved.  NO keys.  I had no pockets.  So  I didn't have
them.  John checked his pockets.  He didn't have them.  I KNOW I brought them in with me because I locked the van from inside Applebee's.  They were RIGHT on the table.  I insisted that the waitress must have thrown them out and to please check again.  Her frustration and agitation was starting to show but she said she would look again.  I went and told John I think they had been thrown out and they were searching for them.  John asked that I take a child with me so  that he didn't have to deal with both.  I brought Eric along with me.  They went through the trash THREE times before the manager came out and said, "I am sorry, but we can't find your keys.  Give me your number and I will call you if we find them."  I was near tears.  We didn't have a spare key.  The boys' carseats were locked in the van, so we coudln't just call somebody to come get us.  I didn't know what to do.  I went outside to tell John and he said, "They HAD to have been thrown away.  We can NOT leave until we get those keys.  Go get them!"

I went back in and asked if they would be willing to let ME go through the trash myself.  Wanting desperately for me to leave, they obliged.  So Eric and I headed to the back of the restaurant to dig through trash.  They set me up in the back with 2 bags of trash - the ONLY two that they could have been dumped in.  Once again they insisted that the keys were not in the trash.  I apologized but insisted I was convinced that they were.  I was told there was no need to apologize - I was bringing this on myself.  As I started to go through it piece by piece, one of the workers offered assistance by saying, "Here - it's easier if you spread it out like this," and she spread the trash out within the bag.  I said, "I will go through it piece by piece."  She said, "Ok.  You want another bag?  I'll get you another bag!"  And she brought me a clean trash bag so i could go through piece by piece.  I was  given gloves, so I bravely went through EVERY napkin, EVERY cup, EVERY wadded up piece of foil.  Amused with me and amazed that I was this stubborn, one of the workers started talking to Eric.  "Do you have mommy's keys?  Are they in your pocket?"  Wouldn't that be nice!  If it were that simple, he would have given them to me an HOUR ago!  Besides that, I had not seen him playing with them.  As I removed every large piece of trash and was getting down to only the food, I started praying.  God PLEASE help me find these keys!  Where could they be?  I knew I was going to come across them in the trash, but I just wasn't finding them and I wanted to find them sooner than later.  Mostly to say "See, I told you so!"  After going through both bags, there were no keys.  It was all I could do to keep from bursting into tears.  I stood up, took the gloves off and just thought for a moment, all the while praying that God would put the keys in my hand.  I hoped that somebody would walk in and tell me that they found them on the floor somewhere in Applebee's.  No such luck.

I wasn't ready to face John.  I didn't know what else to do.  What else could I do?  I couldn't make them magically appear.  We were stuck at Applebee's for the rest of our lives!  I looked at Eric who had been watching me dig through the trash.  "Baby, do you have mommy's keys?"  "No." He patted his pockets and shook his head.

This is how I know God answers prayers.

Eric said no.  He patted his pockets and there was no sound.  I STILL reached into the first pocket.  There was something about the fact that he patted his pockets that seemed strange.  Why would he pat his pockets when I asked him for my keys?  Still no keys.  Of course not.  I  reached into the second pocket.  There was something there!  I pulled it out.  My keys!!!!!

Feeling a rush of relief, frustration, anger, exhaustion, thankfulness, and embarassment, I headed out the door to give John the keys to put the boys in the van while I returned to express my sincerest apologies to the Applebee's staff.  We made it home after all.

The Applebee's staff has a story for the books now.

We are never eating out again.

I am making a copy of the van key THIS week.

Oh.  And I have an adorable little 3 year old boy for sale.
